The practical answer
With a car or current organized transfer, Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica make a coherent full day from Mostar. Start with Blagaj while the river setting is calm, walk Počitelj before the hottest part of the day when possible, and leave the largest flexible block for Kravica. If time slips, cut a stop instead of shortening all three into photographs.
- The loop is a full day, not an afternoon add-on after a complete Mostar visit.
- Blagaj benefits from a calm morning and enough time to walk beside the Buna.
- Počitelj needs walking time and is less forgiving in strong midday heat.
- Kravica deserves the largest flexible block because season and water conditions change the visit.
- Without road transport, choose fewer stops rather than forcing the same itinerary.
A three-stop day only works when the stop count stays at three
The route succeeds because each stop has a different role. Adding more places usually reduces those differences to parking, photos and departures.
| Start | MostarLeave enough time that the day does not depend on rushing the final stop. |
|---|---|
| Stop 1 | BlagajBuna spring, Tekke and a slower river setting. |
| Stop 2 | PočiteljA walking stop on a steep historic stone slope; time it around heat. |
| Stop 3 | KravicaThe most flexible nature block; verify current visitor conditions. |
| Transport | Car or current organized transferThe three-stop sequence is road-shaped; public transport is better suited to a simplified day. |
Use the sightseeing plan to choose the right base.
Choose around the visit you want: time in the Old Town, an overnight before a wider outing, or a room that suits your arrival and luggage.
Keep an evening for the Old Town
Compare Old Town and central-city addresses before booking an overnight. Confirm the approach to the entrance; proximity to the bridge does not guarantee an easy luggage route.
Compare Mostar stay areasArrive by train or coach
Start with the actual terminal on your ticket, then compare it with the accommodation entrance. Check luggage storage, check-in arrangements and the return route for any day trip.
Choose a Mostar stay without a carFind a room for a longer visit
Compare the current hotels, apartments and hostels. Confirm private versus shared facilities and your room's capacity before using Mostar as a base for wider Herzegovina.
Browse Mostar accommodationPlan the experience, not just the pin.
Use these sections for the route, timing and on-the-ground choices that shape the day.
Blagaj first: let the Buna spring set a slower pace
Starting in Blagaj gives the day a quiet first chapter before the road-and-waterfall sections become busier. The Mostar tourism authority describes the Buna spring beneath a high rock face with the Tekke immediately beside it. Those two elements are inseparable visually: the point is the relationship between water, cliff and built heritage rather than a single doorway or viewing platform.
Walk along the water, look back toward the Tekke from more than one angle and leave space for coffee or an early meal if that suits the day. A rushed loop often allocates Blagaj the shortest stop because it is close to Mostar; that is backwards. Its closeness is exactly why you can arrive early and enjoy the setting before treating the rest of Herzegovina as a sequence of departures.

Počitelj second: walk the slope before the heat becomes the itinerary
Počitelj is the route's most vertical cultural stop. The historic settlement climbs above the road and river, so the visit is experienced through steps, stone lanes and changing views rather than from one central square. Give it enough time to climb at a comfortable pace, pause, and look back over the settlement. That is what separates a visit from a roadside stop.
On hot days, route order should be adjusted around exposure. If the morning is already very warm, you may prefer Počitelj before a long Blagaj meal or move more quickly through exposed upper areas. The route is a framework, not a sacred sequence. The durable rule is that Počitelj should not automatically be placed at the day's hottest point simply because it lies neatly between other map pins.

Kravica last: keep the largest flexible block for water and weather
Kravica is the least predictable stop in terms of how long you may want to remain. Water conditions, temperature, visitor numbers and seasonal services change how the waterfalls feel. In warm weather a traveller may want an extended break; in cooler or wetter conditions the emphasis may be walking and viewpoints. That is why the waterfall belongs in the part of the day with the most slack.
Do not anchor the article—or your itinerary—to an old fee, swimming rule or opening hour. Check current local visitor information before leaving Mostar. The planning constant is simpler: arrive with enough time to walk, see the falls from more than one position and stop without immediately calculating the return drive.

Cut a stop when the day slips instead of making every stop worse
Lunch runs long, roads slow down, children need a break, or a place simply turns out to be more interesting than expected. A good independent itinerary has a failure mode for that. If the day falls significantly behind, remove a low-priority stop or shorten the loop. Do not respond by turning Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica into three ten-minute visits; that preserves the checklist while destroying the experience.
The easiest cut depends on your interests. Nature-focused travellers may keep Blagaj and Kravica and skip the steeper Počitelj walk. Architecture and heritage travellers may keep Blagaj and Počitelj and save Kravica for another season. Families may choose the two stops with the least tiring sequence on that particular day. The route should serve the trip, not the other way around.
| If you need to simplify | Keep | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Nature-first day | Blagaj + Kravica | Spring landscape plus waterfalls |
| Heritage-first day | Blagaj + Počitelj | Tekke/spring plus historic stone settlement |
| Hot-weather family day | Blagaj + Kravica | More water-oriented downtime, less steep walking |
| Very short day | Blagaj only | Closest, coherent half-day from Mostar |
Without a car, build a different itinerary instead of copying the driving loop
The three-stop route is naturally shaped around road transport. Current local buses, seasonal services and organized excursions may make parts of the loop possible without a car, but the connections do not automatically line up into the same efficient sequence. A car-free traveller should first decide which one or two places matter most, then check current transport or a verified tour for those specific destinations.
This is particularly important for the return. A beautiful rural stop is not useful if the final connection is uncertain and the whole day becomes a race back to Mostar. Simplifying to Blagaj or using a current organized transfer can produce a better day than forcing three independent public-transport legs. Re-check the live operator or provider information close to the travel date.

Compare the complete package, not the headline
Write down the departure city, exact stops and whether transport is private or shared. A Sarajevo departure and a Mostar departure are different days. Check admission for each site individually: a package that includes one entrance can still exclude another. Add your meal and any transfer to the meeting point before comparing it with an independent driving day.
Choose guided transport when arranging the connections is the obstacle. Keep an independent plan when you want control over how long to stay at each stop and can organize the journey. Neither format removes the need to check current visitor conditions. If the group needs a shorter day, simplify the stops rather than assume the operator can change a fixed package.

Compare these options with the independent plan above. Choose the right departure base first. Sight photos illustrate the route; they are not operator photos.

Short answers before you set the day.
Can you do Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica in one day?
Yes with road transport and a full day. The key is keeping the route to three meaningful stops and leaving the largest flexible block for Kravica.
What order should I visit Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica?
Blagaj → Počitelj → Kravica is a practical default from Mostar, but heat, season and current road conditions can justify changing the order. Treat it as a framework, not a fixed tour schedule.
How long should I spend in Blagaj?
Long enough to walk the Buna-side setting and see the Tekke as part of the spring landscape, not simply take one photograph. It works well as a relaxed half-day on its own.
Can I do this day trip without a car?
Parts may be possible with current local transport or organized tours, but the three-stop sequence is road-shaped. Car-free travellers should simplify and verify live connections rather than copy a driving itinerary.
